How to convert kilowatts-hour to kilowatts

How to convert energy in kilowatt-hour (kWh) to electric power in kilowatts (kW).

You can calculate kilowatt from kilowatt-hour and hours, but you can't convert kilowatt-hour to kilowatt, since kilowatt-hour and kilowatt units represent different quantities.

Kilowatts-hour to kilowatts calculation formula

To convert energy in kilowatt-hours (kWh) to electric power in kilowatts (kW), you can use the following formula:

P(kW) = E(kWh) / t(hr)

So

kilowatt = kilowatt-hour / hour

or

kW = kWh / h

Example

where

P is the power in kilowatts,

E is the energy in kilowatt-hours,

t is the time period in hours.

To use the formula, simply substitute the values for E and t into the equation and solve for P.

For example, if you have an energy consumption of 18 kilowatt-hours for a time duration of 3 hours, you can calculate the power consumption in kilowatts like this:

P = 18 kWh / 3 h = 6 kW

This means that the power consumption in the time period is 6 kilowatts.

It's important to note that the time period must be in hours to use this formula. If the time period is in a different unit of time, you'll need to convert it to hours first. For example, if the time period is in minutes, you can convert it to hours by dividing the number of minutes by 60.
